10th Anniversary Virginia Wine Expo (VWE) in Richmond this Weekend

This weekend, see for yourself how Richmond’s foodie scene secured the #3 slot on Travel + Leisure’s Best Places to Travel 2016 list. The 10th Anniversary Virginia Wine Expo (VWE) kicks off on Wednesday, March 8, bringing a packed itinerary of delicious culinary events all weekend long.

Virginia Wine Expo The Virginia Wine Expo celebrates Virginia’s craft beverage and food scene, with over 20 events and fare from more than 30 local, up-and-coming, and award-winning chefs.

The agenda includes the legendary Walk-Around Grand Tastings, seminars, and signature events/dinners, taking place at the Greater Richmond Convention Center and venues throughout Richmond.

In addition to Virginia wine, whiskey, and craft beer, the Virginia Wine Expo is highlighting two guest regions. Explore wines from Spain and Portugal, the expo’s International Guest Region, and Sonoma County, California, the National Guest Region.

Highlights at the Virginia Wine Expo

Walk-Around Grand Tastings

Virginia Wine Expo glassesDon’t miss the main event: Walk-Around Grand Tastings on Saturday and Sunday. This all-inclusive wine and food tasting spans 650+ Virginia, Spanish, Portuguese and Sonoma County, CA wines, artisan foods, and specialty products.

Virginia’s Governor’s Cup winner and recipients of the competition’s 12+ gold medal wines will be available to sample, until they run out.

Taste wine, or purchase wine by the glass or bottle to enjoy on site in the Wine Garden, or bring home. Purchase specialty foods like artisan chocolate, honey, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, cheese, cocktail mixes, sea salts, baked goods, pralines and brittles, fine meats, beef jerky, gourmet popcorn, peanut butter, and more.

The Walk-Around Grand Tastings is Virginia Wine Expo’s most popular event. If you’re looking to avoid crowds, a VIP/Early Admission Walk-Around Grand Tasting option is also available. See prices and purchase tickets here.

When: Saturday, March 11. VIP/Early Admission from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. General Admission from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost: $45 for General Admission and $60 for VIP/Early Admission (can be combined with combo packages).

A Noodle & Dumpling Affair

New this year, the all-inclusive A Noodle & Dumpling Affair features authentic and creative flavor profiles found in Asian and other cuisines.

Walk around and mingle, while wave after wave of noodles, dumplings and complementary dishes from China, India, Japan, Korea, Italy, Philippines, Vietnam, and Poland are brought out to sample.

Sip wine from Virginia, Spain, Portugal, and Sonoma, sake, artisan cider, and select craft beers.

When: Thursday, March 9 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Cost: $50 (can be combined with combo packages).

Virginia Wine Expo burgersBurger Blast

In its 5th year, Burger Blast is an all-inclusive event featuring 20+ artisan slider-size burgers from some of RVA’s best chefs, 40+ Virginia, Spanish and Sonoma wines, 40+ Virginia and American craft beers (stouts, barrel-aged beers, IPA’s, and several new releases), and live entertainment.

When: Friday, March 10. VIP/Early Admission is from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. and General Admission is from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m.

Cost: $50 for general admission and $65 for VIP/Early Admission (can be combined with combo packages).

SMOKED!

At SMOKED!, you’ll sample smoked/aged meats and seafood and vegetarian selections from some of Richmond’s premier restaurants, pit-masters, and pit-mistresses, representing multiple regions of the U.S., China, Brazil, Eastern Europe and more.

In addition to meats, enjoy breads, cheeses, greens, and stews, all with a smoked element to them (and some non-smoked selections).

Sip over 40 whiskeys and 40 wines, including 12 out of the 23 gold medal wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup, including the Governor’s Cup winner (ranked the top wine in Virginia in 2017). See a list of participating distilleries and wineries here.
